Opening hours

These are our usual opening hours and planned holiday closures. Any changes to these will be prominently displayed.

Please feel free to contact us before you visit, especially if you are travelling from some distance or if severe weather is expected, to check on opening times and the availability of records.

Documents are produced on demand throughout the day with ‘last orders’ 30 minutes before closing time each day.

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: 9:15 – 17:00

Wednesday: 9:15 – 18:00 (last entry 17:00)

Friday: CLOSED

The Record Office is closed on the Saturday of Bank Holiday weekends

Limited Service in Searchroom 13th-16th April 2026

Please be advised that there will be a limited srvice in Searchroom 2 from the 13th-16th April due to window and shelving repairs. Document production will be slower and some documents may not be able to be retrieved immediately. It may be noisy with a smell of paint and there will be less space available to work in that room, particularly for looking at large documents such as maps. You may wish to visit the Record Office at another time if your schedule permits it.

STOCKTAKING WEEK 2026

The Record Office will be closed from Monday 28th September to Friday 2nd October 2026 and will reopen on Monday 5th October at 9.15am.
