Parking

There is a free visitors’ car park on the corner of Long Street and Elizabeth Court opposite the Memorial Park, which is a short distance from the office.

There are several public car parks in Wigston Magna should our car park be full. The car parks on Paddock Street and Aylestone Lane are for all day parking. There are other short stay car parks in the vicinity, which offer parking for up to 4 hours only.

Directions

From Leicester: Follow the A5199, Welford Road, southwards to the roundabout at the junction with the B582. Take the third exit on to Wakes Road and at the junction with Leicester Road turn left. Continue straight on at the mini-roundabout into Long Street. The Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland is on the right. The Record Office car park is 100 yards further on, on the right.

From the M1/M69: Leave the motorway at M1 Junction 21 and follow signs for Leicester South and East and Wigston (A563). At the large roundabout at the end of Glenhills Way take the fourth exit into Stonesby Avenue (B5418) which leads into Aylestone Lane. At the mini-roundabout at the T-junction turn right into Long Street. The Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland is on the right with a car park a further hundred yards on the right.

 

Public Transport

The 48 bus service to Wigston Magna runs from the Haymarket Bus Station in Leicester via London Road (including outside the railway Railway Station) and Welford Road. Ask for “Church Nook” then when in Wigston Magna cross the main road (Bull Head Street) and walk down Bell Street to Long Street.

For the return journey use service 47 from the stop directly outside the Record Office. This service stops at Leicester Railway Station on its way to Haymarket Bus Station. You can also take services 44A or 44B from this stop to Leicester Railway Station and Leicester city centre; however, these services take significantly longer.

If travelling by train from Birmingham, there is a small station at South Wigston (approximately 1½ miles from the Record Office). Service 47 runs from South Wigston to the bus stop outside the Record Office. For the return journey, get on the 48 bus service at “Church Nook” on Bull Head Street, 5 minutes’ walk from the Record Office.
